Meramec Instrument Transformer Company congratulates Dylan Underwood, Electrical Engineer with the U.S. Department of Energy, on being the winner of Meramec’s “Switch Gears to Meramec” golf club giveaway at the IEEE PES T&D Expo in Denver, CO.

At the expo Meramec, an affiliate of Hubbell Power Systems Inc., showcased their new current transformers developed for MV & LV Switch Gear OEM’s along with their new CT’s with high accuracy & extended range capabilities, developed for revenue metering purposes for Utility.

Thanks to Dylan and the rest of the attendees who stopped by their booth to see Meramec’s new products and entered their drawing. Meramec will be at the next IEEE PES T&D Expo in 2020.

Meramec Earns ISO 9001:2015 Certification

Commitment to quality creates growth for Meramec

Cuba, Missouri, January 22nd, 2018 – – On January 10, 2018, Meramec Instrument Transformer Co. (Meramec) was awarded their new certificate of registration for ISO 9001:2015. The audit was conducted in December 2017 by an internationally recognized third party registrar, NSF International.

The new 2015 standard revision is a progression of the ISO 9001 standard from Quality Management System into a Business Management System. This allows registered organizations the flexibility to implement the specified guidelines to the needs and functions of the business overall. The latest 2015 revision highlights include standard efficiency, continuous improvement, process control/thorough documentation and risk management. Risk management is a key component of the 2015 standard ensuring that risk adversity is at the forefront of top management’s decision making.

Meramec Welcomes Richa Vishwakarma

New hire strengthens Meramec’s design engineering talent

Cuba, Missouri, June 13th, 2016 – Meramec Instrument Transformer Co. is proud to welcome Richa Vishwakarma to the company as a Design Engineer. Richa is expected to be an integral part of Meramec’s engineering team, as her knowledge and experience will allow her to become a vital contributor to Meramec’s growth and development.

Richa joins the Meramec team after a successful tenure with CG Power System USA. Richa’s experiences include creating designs per customer specification to meet the needs of the Power Transformer industry. This includes performing short circuit force calculations, analyses, and testing using the latest computer-aided design software.

Richa brings to Meramec a Master of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Among other career experiences, Richa’s background includes serving as a Core and Winding Arrangement Designer in transformers up to 350 MVA, as well as coordinating and providing technical assistance to fully develop system integration of Transformer Protection, Control, and Monitoring Systems.

Richa states, “I am excited to be a part of the Meramec team. I am very familiar with Meramec’s role and contribution to the Instrument Transformer business and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent a company that has the reputation as being a leader in product quality, technical support, and customer service.”

Kiran Vedante Recognized for Outstanding Contributions

Meramec Design Engineer receives certificate of appreciation from IEEE

Cuba, Missouri, June 7th, 2016 – Meramec Instrument Transformer Co. is proud to announce the recent accomplishment of one its Senior Design Engineers. Kiran Vedante has been recognized by the IEEE with a Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Contributions.

The recognition is due to Kiran’s instrumental involvement in the development of IEEE Standard C57.163-2015. This guide establishes power transformer capability while under geomagnetic disturbances. Along with this certificate, Kiran has also been published in the December 2015 issue of the IEEE Electrification magazine. His article details the impact of geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) on power transformers.

Kiran has 20+ years of transformer design and development experience and has worked with many of the leading companies in the industry. Kiran holds a Master Degree in Electrical Engineering from Bombay University in Mumbai.

Kiran stated “I am honored to be recognized by the IEEE with their certificate of appreciation. Many years of hard work and research led to these contributions.”

In his new role at Meramec, Kiran’s responsibilities will primarily focus on new product development. Kiran is expected to become an integral part of Meramec; his knowledge and experience will serve him to be a vital contributor to Meramec’s growth and development.

Kiran joins the Meramec team after a successful tenure with ABB Inc. There he served as Principal Researcher/Investigator on an important topic in the Electric Utility Industry – the effects of geo-magnetically induced currents on power transformers. Over the course of his career, Kiran has been extensively involved in the design and development of power transformers, shunt reactors, and special duty transformers.

Among his many accomplishments, Kiran has been instrumental to the development of a methodology to evaluate the magnetic and thermal influences of GIC Capability on power transformers. He has been published in several IEEE articles and his work has been adopted in a guide by the IEEE.

Kiran brings 20+ years of design and development experience of transformers to Meramec, and has worked with many of the leading companies in the industry. Kiran holds a Master of Electrical Engineering from Bombay University in Mumbai.

Kiran stated, “I am thrilled to be a part of the Meramec team. This is an exciting time to be in the Instrument Current Transformer business. I am especially excited about representing a company with the reputation as a leader in transformer technology, product quality, and customer service.”

The recertification* audit was conducted in December 2015 by the third party registrar, NSF-ISR. The audit highlighted Meramec’s commitment to customer satisfaction and continual improvement and growth in all areas, including new products. Applying the principles behind the ISO 9001:2008 standard in Meramec’s Quality Management System helps to ensure consistency in Meramec’s processes and products, and has helped manage the implementation of process and product improvements.

Meramec Instrument Transformer Co. to Host National Manufacturing Day Career Awareness Event for Cuba High School’s Senior Class

Program Designed to Expand Knowledge of Manufacturing, Improve Public Perception of Manufacturing Career Opportunities

Cuba, Missouri, September 22, 2015 – In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2015, Meramec Instrument Transformer Co., the preeminent manufacturer of Instrument Current Transformers to the electric power industry, will open its doors on Oct. 2 to more than 95 students from Cuba High School and their career advisors as part of an effort to change people’s perceptions about today’s manufacturing environment and draw attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide. Planned events include facility tours and individual discussions between the students and Meramec’s senior leaders and current employees on career opportunities and the skills required for the many roles in the manufacturing operation.

Manufacturing Day is an annual national event executed at the local level supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.

In support of this national event, Crawford County Commission has issued a resolution, which declares Friday, October 2, 2015, to be “Manufacturing Day” in Crawford County, Missouri.

“There is an increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program and operate technology,” said Nick Sanazaro, President/CEO with Meramec Instrument Transformer Co. “The average age of a manufacturing employee is 56, and between now and 2020 there will be an unprecedented shortage of skilled workers who will need to be replaced.”
